Unit 04 Reflection Prompt

With the culmination of this course nearing, we now come full circle back to your developing personal practice model (PPM). As a reminder, a PPM is the internalized idea of who you are as a social service worker or social worker, what theories and frameworks are important to how you view the world, your community, and the folks within it, which then informs the practical approaches you use within your role. Given your new knowledge and deepened understanding of the therapeutic practice as a whole, the way in which you relate to clients, and even how you view yourself as a professional might have very well shifted. To track this change, let’s return to the original reflection questions from the start of your learning journey.

With a 2- 2 1/2-page, double-spaced page limit, and using APA formatting, share what you believe to be your updated personal practice model. Use what you have learned from the course to help inform your responses. Once completed, submit to the appropriate Dropbox folder on the course website. To get started, think about the following questions:

Developing your competencies in knowledge synthesis

  1. What theories or concepts from the course have shifted how you view clients and mental illness?
  2. How has the course material informed your “use of self” when working with clients? Who is the leader throughout the therapy process? Will you guide and teach your clients to resolve their challenges, or would it be more explorational and client-lead?
  3. How can you support yourself both inside and outside of the therapy room in order to be an effective therapist?
