Prepare a short report on your interview. Aim for 3-4 pages, double-spaced. Include in your report:

  1. An introduction to the child and the report (about a paragraph).
  2. Describe, in detail, how the child solved it (you should include enough detail so that the reader can recreate what happened without having to watch the video).

Prepare a short report on your interview

  1. What have you learned about what the child knows, understands, and can do? Support your conclusions with specific examples from the child’s thinking (strategies, comments, etc.). Focus on what the student does know; when referencing what you infer the student does not know also make sure to also discuss how this allows you to understand what he/she does know. Detail and connections are important. (For example: The child understands addition and subtraction in terms of part-whole relationships because… The child understands the commutative property of addition because… The child is able to persevere to make sense of a problem that was challenging because… And so on.)

Prepare a short report on your interview

  1. What surprised you? What do you find interesting about the representations used by the interviewee? What did you learn about your own understanding of the mathematics?
  2. What did you learn about your role as the interviewer? What have you learned about clinical interviewing and its potential usefulness in your teaching?
  3. Attach the student’s written work to your report, if there is any. Also attach the signed signature page of the consent form and include a link to your video. Instructions for uploading video to the site will be provided to you. use APA style citations.
